NO BORED HOUSEWIVES OR HAPPY SNAP HOBBYISTS: These courses are for those individuals who have a deep rooted passion for photography or a secret yearning to enter the world of photography. For the individual who doesn’t merely want to learn how to take “nice pictures”, but who wants to discover the secrets of this age old medium.
BOUND TO NO RULES: If you merely want to press buttons or functions on the camera that will do everything for you, then we are not for you. We cater for the individual - the one who wants to explore, experiment and break the conventional rules of photography by overriding settings manually on the camera in order to achieve the desired effects and in the process develop their own personal style.
SPOONFEEDING IS FOR BORING SISSIES: If theory was the order of the day, how much would you really remember, would you be able to execute what you’ve learned? The practical aspect of the course is to get those brain cells working and to understand the principles of photography. Weekly assignments are carefully designed to put your creative and technical ability to the test.
NOT FOR CRY BABIES: Nice! Cute! Pretty! Those images are ideal for your granny’s 80th birthday album. Bored to death is not a feature on this course. The aim is to impress, shock, to purposefully confuse or simply to kick serious solid butt with your images. With our weekly crit sessions, we use a very simple yet effective method called brutal honesty without getting personal. How can one grow in photography if one’s images are always 'nice'?s...nice.
NOT FOR THE UPTIGHT CONSERVATIVE: Practical shoots will continue regardless of the weather conditions - pouring rain, gailforce winds or sweltering heat - only Hurricane Hilda can stop us. It's more than just a practical shoot, it will be an adventure of exploring natural light at its best or worst and learning how to adapt and adjust (both you and the camera).
